Can The Electric Car Go in the Car Wash?

E-cars Want to Shine Too

With the spring/summer season, vehicles are being washed more regularly again. If you have recently purchased an electric vehicle, you may be wondering whether electric vehicles and car washes are compatible. As the saying goes, water and electricity don't mix. But does this also apply to electric vehicles and car washes?

Less worries, more shine

Possible concerns quickly arise when washing the electric vehicle in the car wash. Is there a risk of a short circuit? Can water get into the battery and damage the electric car? Are there any safety measures that need to be observed?

We can relieve you of all these worries immediately. An electric vehicle is well protected all round to protect it from rainwater or other sources of moisture. This must also be proven in safety tests. Therefore, washing in a car wash is no problem. Underbody washing is also no problem at all. As with all other vehicles, close the windows, fuel filler cap and doors and follow the operator's instructions. After a repair to the underbody, however, a hand wash is recommended in order to avoid any possible penetration of liquid. Many electric car models also have an extra car wash mode. It is therefore always worth taking a look at the instructions before washing.

Be careful with the high-pressure cleaner

However, when washing by hand with a high-pressure cleaner, there are a few points to bear in mind to ensure the safety of the electric vehicle. As a general rule, the water jet should not be directed at the underbody to prevent moisture from penetrating through the hard water jet. The charging socket should also not be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner.
